A former banking hall, 1 Lombard Street experienced romance as far back as 1776 when Smith, Payne & Smith Bank was located to the rear of the building in Plough Court. Charles Dickens first love Maria Beadnell's father was a manager of the bank and the young Dickens would walk to Lombard Street in the early hours just to gaze upon the place where Maria slept.
Situated in the Square Mile, 1 Lombard Street opened its doors in August 1998 when it was transformed into the exquisite fine dining experience you can see today. The restaurant, bathed in natural light from the dramatic domed roof, has ample room for the most extravagant of celebrations accommodating 200 guests for dinner and dancing.
