Just got back from an amazing anniversary stay at the Hyatt Regency in Lahaina, Maui! Here's the scoop:
Location & Getting There:
The resort is about 45 minutes from the airport - super easy drive! Though we rented a car ($22 self-parking or $40 valet), we barely used it since the resort had everything we needed.
Check-in Experience:
Showed up 4 hours early and wow - the staff couldn't have been nicer! Not only did they let us check in early, but they surprised us with a bottle of champagne for our anniversary. Talk about starting the trip right!
The Room:
Splurged on an ocean view upgrade and it was SO worth it! The views are absolutely stunning. Room was super spacious and spotlessly clean. We had a spacious balcony as well!
Pool & Beach Area:
The pool area is a total paradise! There's a gorgeous main pool, a hot tub, and you're right on the ocean. Love that they offer poolside service - nothing beats sipping a drink while lounging by the water! There's a restaurant and bar right by the pool too. If you're into pampering, there's a full spa just past the pool area.
Food & Dining:
Swan Court Restaurant is a must for breakfast! The buffet spread is incredible:
- Fresh pastries and all kinds of breads
- Eggs done various ways
- Tons of fresh fruit
- Different meats
- Way too many options to list!
The service was top-notch too. Swan Court turns into a steakhouse at night, but we skipped it as it was a bit pricey for us.
Other Amenities:
- Honolulu Coffee opens at 6am - perfect for early morning coffee runs
- Several cute shops inside the hotel
- Super convenient having everything right there
Pro Tips:
- If you're not planning to explore much of the island, you might skip the rental car
- The self-parking option saves you $18/day over valet
- Early check-in is worth asking for - they're super accommodating if they can manage it
Hyatt Regency Hotel and Spa- Maui:
Overall, this place really knows how to make a special occasion feel extra special. Between the amazing staff, gorgeous views, and all the amenities, it was the perfect anniversary getaway!
Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for that perfect Hawaiian resort experience!
UPDATE SEPT 2026:
Great resort, but poor communication during the outage
We stayed here in 2024 and returned September 2428, 2026. As always, the setting, the grounds, and the staff are wonderful, and most of this stay was amazing.
We arrived the day before the Snapdragon 2026 Global Conference ended at the resort. At check-in I asked, as I always do, about an ocean view upgrade (and was willing to pay). None was available, which was fine. Our room wasn't cleaned yet when we got there, also no big deal. Our bellman, who was lovely as always, made a phone call and we were "upgraded" to an oceanfront room. I'll admit that left me feeling a certain way, given that one had been unavailable at check-in.
The real problem came on the 26th, when a storm knocked out power and internet across the resort. That's nature, and no one's fault. But the hotel's response fell far short. For two days we had no in
formation at all. No printed notices under the door, no signs, nothing at the front desk to tell us:
Where phone charging stations were set up
Whether breakfast would still be served
Which shops were open or closed
Whether the bar would operate
Which elevator was working
A notice with a QR code was posted in the elevators, but without phones or internet, it was useless. A simple printed update would have solved this.
Outages happen, and this surely isn't the resort's first. A basic paper-based communication plan should be in place. We love this property, but Hyatt, please do better.
