Design masterclass. My second time visiting. My wife loves a high end experience. I love a place with people that make you feel genuinely welcome. This offers both, in spades.
But before I start (and I'm a little tipsy on account of the overwhelmingly friendly Balinese welcome you'll get anywhere on the island, not just at the Hyatt), I'd like to wax lyrical about the actual building.
I love brutalist architecture. As one of the first major western hotels in Bali built in the early 70s I already knew it would be a place I'd find fascinating. I know I'm probably in the minority with this aesthetic, but what Hyatt have managed to do with their immaculate refresh in (iirc) 2018 is create an absolutely top tier hotel experience that caters to so many high end expectations but retains the soul, heart and history of something that should be cherished.
For context the Andaz next door (also owned by Hyatt and you can cross charge - lovely bar and restaurants) is a beautiful, high end ultra 5 star experience hotel and under any other circumstances I'd absolutely pick that hotel first. It's beautiful! Buuut everything about the Hyatt Regency is so immaculate, professional and luxury but also friendly and... well, just downright cool, that just don't think I'll ever be able to!
So... Amazing looking, with wildlife and serenity, but with an ultra-cool 70s vibe. Check. Luxury and top tier staff, but retaining friendly and inclusive service. Check. What else...
We had the club lounge both times we visited. The second time we wondered if we should... Not because it's not excellent... It is... More because we wanted to explore more outside of the the hotel (there's a lot of great places) and it's SO EXCELLENT, that we felt bad not having a bite to eat there or having some of their cocktails every night.
We didn't regret opting for the club lounge the second trip. It's a serene place to grab a coffee, snack or cold drink at any time, but breakfast and "happy hour" which is about 3 hours makes it well wothwhile. Again the staff are so so good, remembering your names and faces, your favourite drinks and... If you're like me, making sure you get a complimentary double every time, but not only that.
Our teeneage daughter has a tree but allergy. They were so careful, each time she came to the lounge, recogniseing her by face and (subtly) asking if she wanted anything preparing. The whole hotel was amazing for this, better than any other in our experience.
I've a had a few whisky's while writing this so I'll cut it short...(This is probably the longest review but I have so much to say). In case it's not obvious, I really love this hotel. There are hotels that boast better pools (this one has great pools by the way) or more restaurants or whatever else... But something really has it's hooks in me about this hotel. It's quite difficult to quantify but it's easily in my top 5 of all time.
